Belonging

Belonging

A Poem by Isabel

I was lead to believe that we were safe.
Little did I know we were to be caged.
Bliss tarnished by the few who fight.
It was then when I knew I regained my sight.

Every little word said could never be taken back.
It was simple but painful I'll leave it at that.
Swallowed by anything with beauty and the pieces began to fall.
Trapped to set aside the fake even if I cannot create a start.

My chest burns a hole with pride.
Mechanical it all became with every dime.
Sorrow needles into the very soul.
I cannot feel anymore it's just too cold.

A light unbounded is what drives us.
In this world with nothing but darkness,
I embrace the feeling of love even if it doesn't come.
I refuse to sink my teeth into what has already been done.

I ran from everything good and took the chances with the bad.
Now addicted to the sadness and never saw the light of peace. I was damned.
I sat with those words again and rose these cracked hands.
I held them high praying for the world to one day find me.
I waited for someone to save me.

It was the truth that opened my life.
The times that killed me the most were to erase all the lies.
It was those who kept the embers that stood strong.
I too now search to know where it is I belong.
