Wind-up Toy

Wind-up Toy

A Poem by Mey

You stand there like a little

Wind-up toy,

Waiting for a hand to turn your key.

And I watch you like a little

Wound-up boy,

Eager for my playtime.

So I reach out

And twist your key,

And you begin to move

But you move away from me,

No longer just a little

Wind-up toy.

And you walk away

As if you had the right, with your little

Wind-up legs.

And as you walk away

I realize,

I’m standing there

Just like A little

Wind-up toy.
