The Worst Fear

The Worst Fear

A Poem by Mindy

I hear your voice soft in my ear.

I see your eyes plead with me to stay.

You hold my hand, a tear escapes.

A stone wall built of sorrows, false hope, and fear.

My guard is crumbling, my fear remains.

I hold you in desperation, or is it fate?

Is the fire in my veins when you touch me

                Desire from my heart?

                                Or,

                Merely,

                                An infatuation?

Infatuation of what?

                Your hands?

                                Your lips?

           Your tongue?

Or the sound of your heart when I lie my delirious mind on your beautiful soul?

This single tear which escapes my shadowed eyes trails down my cheek to fall off trembling lips.

Why is it that I tremble when you touch me?

Is it nerves? Is it guilt? Or is it fear?

Fear of what?

                Commitment?

                                Loyalty?

           Responsibility?

Or the fear that once I fall, I will be dropped.

To the bottom of the oh so familiar well of sorrow and tears,

Thrown open like a scab ripped off of a fresh wound.

A wound of betrayal, lies, and deceit.

A large crevice in the center of my back,

Big enough for a razor,

Deep enough for an ax.

Afraid of love, afraid of fate.

Forgive me my love, for I am afraid.

I hear your voice soft in my ear

                I love you.

I see your eyes plead with me to stay

                I need you.

You hold my hand, and a smile escapes.
