Snakes And Ladders

Snakes And Ladders

A Poem by Misfits Girl

A silent motion once again
The game begins.

Three whispered words
The game begins.

On the floor
Behind the door
In the cupboard
Forever more.

The game begins.

Hide and seek
Hunt and kill
His turn to look
And find me he will.

The game is under way.

Escape the room
Forget the house
Try not to breath
Quieter then a mouse.

The game is under way.

Stock-still
Muscles ache
Try not to blink
For safety’s sake.

The game is almost through.

A foot on the stairs
A sound from the wall
Screw up my face
His silent call.

The hiding place is lost.

Rough fists
Broad finger
Light explodes
The pain lingers.

The loser once again.

Warm blood
Fresh pain
Patters on the floor
My bloody rain.

The loser once again.

Back to bed
Clean up the innocents
Fix up the story
Hide all the incidents.

Await the game tomorrow.

A tragic case of abuse.........and well written in that you make it not a game, but of course to the abuser it becomes that and repeats itself.........its terrible that women in their thousands suffer this daily, in their homes, and then try to cover up, in a way protecting the abuser, but feeling there is no choice.
I found a great sadness in this piece of writing and frightening at the same time.
