Leaf/Left

Leaf/Left

A Poem by Kelley T

I stand alone,

dangling dangerously above the departed.

Yellow, orange, brown and red " blood red "

It is only a matter of time before I join them.

Mother Nature betrays me.
My mother betrays me.

She has given me life,

a privilege which will soon be revoked.

Gales shake me, chill me;

I almost wish she would cease taunting.

End it.

The dead lay in piles, massed together;

they know not my torment, watching silently as they fall.

My color has drained, changed;

I have transformed, slowly dying.

Mother Nature betrays me.

My mother betrays me.

The sun is setting on my final day;

I give up.

I let go, tumble, and join the others.

I give up.

The sun has set on my final day.
