The Burdens of Beauty

The Burdens of Beauty

A Poem by MoriartyMesa
"

the down side of beauty,

"
The perfect dress, the perfect perfume,

the time, the mirror, the music,

the hair needs to be just right,

the skin needs to be like silk,

The work that is put in,

just to shy away,

smile at a passing few,

ignore the rest,

cause if i didn't do this,

i would be ignored.

Some handsome men,

some plain,

some fat,

some with a nice smile,

why do I feel like this,

are you offering a seat just to be nice?

If i never took the time,

would you offer?

Just cause i choose to ignore you,

does that make me a bad person?

But there are too many eyes,

behind sun glasses,

computers,

phones,

and news papers.

Your not looking at me,

just a fantasy that will last until I turn the corner and you keep driving,

just because i don't respond to a holla,

I'm stuck up?

Than the jealous looks,

being ignored,

so your man looked,

that makes me a s**t,

so he flirted,

now I'm a w***e?

No one wants to know,

no one wants to see,

no one would ever believe,

I hate being beautiful.

wow... the fact that I can relate to this on so many levels and you wrote it as a man, shows serious skill.. some think that it is easy when you have a pretty package, but sometimes it makes it worse.. nice song to go with these honest, deep words.. I do get sick of being judged on looks.. we are the sum of our parts, not just the covering... well done:)

You have done a brilliant job of writing this from "her" perspective. I heard her voice in this piece...with no trace of testosterone at all...Now that takes talent, MM!

It's the woman who glows without the makeup, shying away from her natural reflection...
now she's a true beauty! ;)

Well penned.~xoxo~:)

that is what i thought of , what Dye said...the old commercial..."Don't hate me cause i'm beautiful"

i like this poem...there is something even more beautiful about a woman who is really pretty but doesn't know it...one who shys away, because she has no idea of her looks...

she finds herself blemished and very average...

i really like how you wrote this from the perspective you did.

In answer to your PM, no it doesn't. I've always said "don't hate me because I'm beautiful, there are so many other reasons.' LOL

In all seriousness though, am I'm going to speak from my insecure side. I feel like this poem describes me, not saying, "hey, look how beautiful I am"-- but I know I'm not ugly either and I've dealt with everyone of these things you describe. It can be a burden, but truthfully I wouldn't give it up.

I think this one is spot on, I really, really like it! I'm just going to assume you like my review because I haven't found a way to temp you to reply directly to my comments. LOL But notice how clear my comment was ;)
