Seperation

Seperation

A Poem by Mr. Lopez

Even after being severed for so long…….

Why is it that I can still feel it?

Long after I have lost sight ………….

Why is it that I can still see it?

Years after I last ate…….

Why is it that I can still taste it?

Through transcendence from a slow calming

Winter separation

I still long for its cold embrace

Because I have eaten of the forbidden fruit

I will always hunger for its bitter sweet nectar

Although I have blinded myself of its view

I see it as a reminder of who I will never be

It would be so easy

To eat just one more bite…..

It would be so easy

To know her cold touch just once more….

It would be so easy……

To change my view for a day

But I’ve been given a chance to balance the books

I have come too far forward

To fall so far back

I will live Forever more separated

Author's Note

Mr. Lopez
The battle of addiction is an ugly war in anyones life.I have seperated myself from the chosen substances to live in reality. Yet the battle lasts a life time. Just one slip and you will fall.

I really relate with this as I think addiction is a part of everyone's life-some in their pasts and some in the present. I am sure there are a lot of people that would agree-At least those that are willing to be honest. The American Family Association says that 75% of families have someone that is addicted to something, creating gross dysfunction. I myself, believe the statistics have got to be higher than that....I appreciated this write. Just saying it like it is. I love to read writes like this that deal with every day battles that we face. So easy to relate. Thanks ML! :-) Carole

i can relate to this so well...many people are struggling with addiction, some worse than others, whether if its an addiction to a peron, a drug, a feeling, or a compulsive thought, everyone can relate to this so well, and the concept you bring in here is universal to all humans, in regards to their characteristics...great piece, keep the pen flowing =)

Love this piece. It has to be the best one written on the subject. I am glad for your author's note. It clarifies the meaning and makes it a more vulnerable write which I love.

I think this is a very beautiful poem, and the feeling I'm left with is bittersweet too. The words are beautiful, the analogies are perfect, but I know it has such a true and deep meaning that is very personal, and that lends a sadness. I'm going to guess, based on my experience of writing about what I know and what I battle, that putting it on paper does help some. Keep writing about what you know and what is stuck inside. It can also give others who do not have an understanding or knowledge of what you have and are going some clue of the torment you write about here.

After reading your poem and your authors note and then reading what Carole and Dani C. had to say...I don't know what I could possibly add. Your work as usual is brilliant, touching and deeply felt and TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD. I for one am in the boat with you, maybe just a little less separated than you, actually theres no maybe to it... :( Good luck and keep on rowing or battleing as the case may be and like Dani C said hang on to your friends here (Including myself) and elsewhere. It's all about winning the war. Congrats on a wonderful, honest, heartfelt piece. and Thank you for writing it.
