The Three Gossips

The Three Gossips

A Poem by Mr. Lopez

The three gossips gather

 At the watering hole

To share little tid-bits

Of what they think that they know

They cackle and whisper

 Not to be over heard

They sharpen their tongues

 With damaging words

There is although one thing

 That they don’t know

That God now is watching

 Their gossipers show

He doesn’t appreciate

The damage they do

When speaking of people

That might even be true

But care not they chatter

 In laughter some more

All of the while

 God is keeping a score

They breed bitter resentment

 For each other to eat

Spreading their rumors

 Of lies and deceit

The trio will part

When three become two

then after you’ve left

 They will gossip of you

Oh, wow. Love the ending. I try not to guess the ends of a poem as I work may way through it, but you gave such a nice surprise at the end! I was already feeling that guilt as I read it, thinking, "Yes, I know this is all so true. I know these things, and I know I am one who can and does gossip from time to time." Then the end came! Slap! Back to reality!

Now if this poem doesn't reach everyone on a personal level, some are just not being honest!

Gossips!!How i hate them.
Gossips had destroyed lots of relationships between people, and i admire you for coming up with a poem about this act (aside from war and cheating) where everyone loses as God continues to "keep Score"

Oooh...what a scary poem. I feel evil now, somehow.

There was only a line or two I didn't understand:
'There is although one thing'

^^ "Although" kind of interrupts the flow.

'That might even true'

^^ Is there a word missing?

Anyway, thought I'd return a review. :)

Great job! this is so true. Reminds me of an SNL skit when there were about five people in a cab, and as soon as one got off, the others would be gossping about the one who got off, etc etc etc. the tongue can be sharper than a bullet, it can cause a ripple effect, and hurt so many others. And then the telephone game gets played, this person says this, the other says this, and pretty soon it's comploetely misconstrued. That's why I don't even look at those Star magazines, I know they ain't true.

well, thanks for sharing!

Very good my friend. An important and true message. The tongue can easily be set on fire from below to do damage above. Thanks.

I enjoy the way you incorporate colour in your work Mr Lopez, very attractive. The message in this one is so true; when I was in high school, a couple girls used to sit behind me on the bus. They would pull my ponytail over and over and over...everyday...until I finally got up and nearly punched one right in the nose...haha... Know what? They never bothered me again; in fact, we became good friends after that :-)
Gossip is best when it's ignored; I mean you can't punch anyone in the nose, right? LOL. I'm playing, sort of.. The issues must lie within the gossipers... The key is a warm heart and an open mind... A really cool piece!

haha!!

Yay! I love this one ML :):)
Soooooooo true.
I believe that unhappy people gossip
because they are... well.... unhappy!
Misery loves company. We are all guilty
of this at one time or another -- I dare not
point fingers. But I do appreciate the message.

Once again, it's all about self love. Most of
us are not really happy with ourselves. That is
a truly spiritual experience (self love) that MUST
be maintained daily, or it will find its way back into
the negative. Once self love is achieved and practiced,
loving others is so simple and forgiveness comes naturally.

Again, awesome work my friend! You always manage to trigger
my emotional side.. lol.
