The Undecided

The Undecided

A Poem by Mr Whiskers
"

Take a second, read it deeply in your heart.

"

Sadness
All encompassing
Left behind on the rim of a drinking glass
If I sipped Could I taste it
Pain
Evident in the slow forced smile
Lingering in the air
I see
If I breathe it Could I face it
No one knows
Can't imagine themselves left behind
Those we've lost
Those we've loved
A void felt but you can't place it
There is no way to label
All the things I see
Maybe if we knew what we need
Some day we could heal it
God knows we still feel it
Maybe if we knew where to start
Perhaps we could stop falling apart

This poem makes me wish I had more skill as a reviewer. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Omitting punctuation gives it lack of closure--as though the feeling just lingers on and on and there's nothing you can do about it. The staccato lines give the feeling that pain and sadness are so great that the speaker doesn't have enough energy to think any other thoughts on those lines. It seems the unanswered questions tire the speaker to the point where he fears he may give up on ever answering them. That's what I felt when I read it and I guess the point of poetry is that your audience feels something. You were successful in that. Thanks.
