To build heaven

To build heaven

A Poem by Mrudula Rani
"

"
We need Gods to come down to build heaven on earth,
It takes only a religion to make the world a hell.
The stream of human-flow passes on.

Life is reduced to desperation by wars of hate,
along the edges of no man's land settle refugees.
we need Gods to come down to build heaven on earth.

Being a girl is a curse in many a place, their childhood robbed,
she is nothing but a toy for men to break and discard.
It takes only a religion to make the world a hell.

The homeless under the bridge a permanent exhibit,
The skyscrapers along the waterfront an advertisement for cities' wealth.
The stream of human-flow passes on.

This really touched me. Highlighting those who suffer from misfortune and also confirming what I have thought for sometime, that religion at times can create hell on earth. Thank you for highlighting the plight of those who suffer. There is such unfairness in this world, and that is misery for many. Well written

Lovely poem. Pleased to have found it.
There is so much unfairness and inequality in this world, despite religion and people with good hearts. Hatred, fear and greed seems to be winning, but not always will it be so, I pray.

I join in the prayer with you in wishing for better days for humanity. Thank you.
I love the repetition of certain phrases like "It takes only a religion to make the world a hell". Makes the poem easier to understand as a whole.

Thank you for reading. I appreciate your review.
Not familiar with this particular poetic form, but I’ve seen others that are similar in repeating lines from stanza to stanza. Sometimes such repetition seems to be done only to satisfy the form. But in your poem, the repeating lines flow naturally with the message you are conveying. I very much love the examples you choose to illustrate the brokenness of our world. These are the same things I feel so bad about every day, things that make me feel so fortunate for my life, despite my struggles. I agree that only God & prayer can be the way to find an answer, becuz humans just ain’t getting it right! Your heart is much appreciated here as you share it in your writing (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Yes, we do need Gods to come down. Our species is on a rocky road to ruin; has been for a long time now and in today's sound bite world of unbridled consumerism, it gets worse by the day.

It seems to me that the desire to take action and halt the evil that man is inflicting on his fellows, has been replaced by mere tut tutting and hand wringing, that lasts no longer than a commercial break. One day perhaps, we may come to our senses, but truly, I am not holding my breath.

Your poem speaks loud.

Thank you for your wonderful thoughts on my poem.
This is a very powerful poem. It's written in a form I do not recognize, but I like the look of it. It makes me sad concerning the subjects you so eloquently described. This world is fast becoming a hell of our own doing where no one is innocent. Excellent work. CD
