Frequently Stirred

Frequently Stirred

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Frequently Stirred

A precipitation of rain

begins to fall

drop by drop

it’s audible sound

instills the ground,

anointing my soul

like a bowl of soup

frequently stirred.

There is a feeling of rebirth one has standing in the rain....a feeling that all things can change and for the better. Great metaphor here....a comforting one. I liked this, Kelly. Lydi**

You too, Lydi!
In the south when a pot of stew is watery my Nana would make some "thickening" using flour as the base along with varied seasonings. This poem doesn't need Nana's help at all it stirs the heart and warms the soul.

Thanks for the warmness of your words....
The mention of rain could be a good sign or a bad omen, depending on the mood of the poem; here, you used it to cause a mellow and calm atmosphere, which was brilliant.

A bowl of soup, like sitting by a fireside, is a symbol of warmth and comfort. The cascading sound of a softly falling rain can give rise to the similar feeling of peacefulness and beauty. The parallels between the soup (frequently stirred) and the rainfall (instilling the ground) is that of soft and delicate disturbance of the objects. This brief write is so filled with content that is implied; a wonderful piece of writing. Nice work, Kelly. Very nice. take care...dan

The juxtaposition of anointing my soul with bowl of soup has an element of comic with the divine. Tough to pull off but Kelly you did it well. Love You!
