A Married Woman

A Married Woman

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

A Married Woman

I am a married woman.

Statistically speaking,

I should have all of which I need

and want

in my husband.

I lead an ordinary life.

I come and go virtually as I please,

indulging myself with time alone

whenever I can sort it out

from yesterday’s laundry

and the local PTA.

Call it simple etiquette,

that a woman like me

would never want for something more…

that a woman like me

would never settle for anything less

than what encircles the third finger

of her left hand

Statistically speaking,

I should have all of which I need.

A real sad poem written for a reality that creeps on people's doors without a warning. That storms inside their hearts and minds to take away what should have been immortalized till death do its part.

I look upon divorce as another chance for a happy ending. We all deserve one. Thank you!

I agree, once it happens, people should not continue to live in the legacy of unhappiness.
Saddening in many ways, sometimes the need is different to the want and the want different to the need...not so easy...beautifully voiced love xo

Kelly, There's an old saying that originally was about sports, goes like this: "There are three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies and statistics." Statistics are uses as an analytical tool, to qualify or quantify a belief or theory. There is nothing analytical about what dwells in the heart, what breathes in the mind and what is exposed by the soul. Talking about a marriage using statistics as a barometer is like measuring a growing child's height in miles...it is inconceivable that this feeling can sustain a relationship of any kind, especially a marriage. Having gone through a divorce myself, all I can do is wish you friend well and hope that he or she can pick up the pieces and move forward, however hard those first steps must seem. Very nice write Kelly. I am going through a difficult patch now; I betrayed my wife's trust by drinking again. I wrote a thing called "Chapter 1. The Reckoning," if you'd like to read it. I feel I should apologize to all of my friends here for trying to appear to be someone I am not. Thank you. take care...dan

Well written, divorce is never easy, especially when children are involved. I liked the format of this, and the message.

It's bitter cold. I had a fatigue day Monday. I'm sick of winter!
Some girls think getting married is the solution to a myriad of their lifes problems. It is merely just another step through the maze of life. Never stop asking for more!

Thank you for taking the time to review!
Is there a really a statistic that says that most married women are truly happy and are completely fulfilled by their relationship with their husband... I'd be surprised if it's more than 50%... doesn't really take anything away from your wise and wistful poem either way... ahhh... rewind... I re-read it again in mid-review... you're being facetious, right? I'm a little slow on the uptake this evening/morning. Anyway, what I really like about it is the thoughtful symmetry, the way the piece is so self contained. Just Beautiful, Kelly!

I didn't want to go into detail, or make it too lengthy. I think it says enough. I'm thrilled you .. read more
this had some dark underpinnings as I was reading and than it hit me when I saw the author's note and it became crystal clear especially with these lines

So kind of you to say, Rico...thank you!
i was going to say...reading this...too many 'i shoulds"

indicating that the speaker knows she should feel lucky for what she has..but instead, she is just another statistic of boredom, sameness and and despair...wishing her life were different.
this is so good...
