To Keep You Small

To Keep You Small

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

To Keep You Small

Tell me how

to keep you small,

so that you fit perfectly into my lap

so that my heart won’t break

when you no longer need

to take my hand,

to hold a balloon,

to blow a kiss.

When I'm on your pages something comes over me and I feel all giddy and at home … it's like we're somehow close, and I like it.

Sweetness simply oozes out of you, Kelly, as does deep tenderness of a mother for her child, as a lover for her man, or as a great poetess and loving friend.

It's no small wonder I enjoy coming to see You … hugs! ⁓ Richard

You warm my heart with your reviews, Richard, and I am always happy to see you! Thank you!
Kelly, your poetry invites the reader in and always shakes them up, in many ways, this caused a tear...in both heart and womb from a woman's point of view, your poetry is real and unique and always has a glow that lingers within me...truly wonderful writing :)

...and you as well, mine! Thank you, my friend!
The growing of children is so bittersweet. It's wonderful when they grow, evolve, become what they once dreamed of becoming. It's sad at the same time that because they're like adults now you can't cradle them anymore as you once used to. Such a lovely poem!

...thank you, Jon...is that a fish or a dog?

It's a fish. Caught from the local river. Largemouth Bass.
Not sure, but may be, the metaphor's either mother or lover, who's soothing her child or partner with pleasantness ... & caring for whatever he's in need to have for. Kinda deep and thoughtful poetry it is. Nicely pen'd up!

Just a mother looking back on years that flew. Thank you, my friend!
try to capture those small precious moments because they fly by so fast. All my children are adults now but they are still my kids. I really liked this sweet poem Kelly, you captured a feeling so many have.

Your sincerity always warms my heart, Robert...thank you!
Wow, you have touched me with these lines. I have 3 grown up children and they are great, don't understand me wrong, but I wish I could go back when they were small. A lot of tender memories are coming up when I read these lines. Well done. :) Rudi
