To Keep You Small

To Keep You Small

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

To Keep You Small

Tell me how

to keep you small,

so that you fit perfectly into my lap

so that my heart won’t break

when you no longer need

to take my hand,

to hold a balloon,

to blow a kiss.

Thank you, Sally...so nice to meet you!
A very true poem here. My baby daughter is 19 years old. It seem like yesterday she held my hand and needed my protection. Today she want to be the free bird. Thank you Kelly for sharing the amazing poetry.

I simply adore children. I should of had a dozen! Thank you, Dara!
Yes, as a mother I can relate so very well. My children are adults now, but it seems like only yesterday.....

I cannot even understand how those years flew by me in the blink of an eye....

Writing about a child seems to always hold hope that we can just halt the aging process a little, long enough to hold on to the child and all memories created. This is a beautifully conceived and written piece, Kelly. Bravo! take care...dan

...so true, Dan...so true! Thank you so much for adding some warmth to my day!
we do lament the passing of those young and joyful child years ... when we were their "All" ;) seems to go way too quickly ... but even though rocky at times all those "phases" have great impact on our selves ... we have done our best ... sometimes its enough ..and sometimes not :( if we are lucky ..no one went to jail ...hospital trips were minimal ..no one has been taken ... and as adults ... realizations have been made, we are friends :) your poem really got me thinking and feeling blessed this morning ... my teen age grand daughter is staying the weekend with us .. today among other things we are going for a driving lesson (she has her permit) i am simply grateful!
