Of Which Nothing Compares

Of Which Nothing Compares

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Of Which Nothing Compares

I smell the rain,

like a child smells a flower.

Its scent wafts through me

like coffee brewing,

like home-made cookies

fresh from the oven,

or grandfather’s pipe…

like a Douglas Fir tree

in the middle of December,

or the scent of a baby’s head,

of which

 nothing compares.

These are all very comforting things. Especially a newborn. That takes me back.

I know the feeling, Ana...they grow too fast! Thank you!
There is so much beauty and purity in your simplistic style of writing. I am totally in awe of it. The depth of your feelings particularly the line-"the scent of a baby’s head,of which nothing compares." is remarkable. I could feel every word coming alive. This indeed is a thought-provoking and beautifully conceptualized piece :)

I believe we each have our own list of cognitive memories. Thank you for enjoying mine!
This is utterly beautiful, Kelly! Scents do trigger memories and nothing compares to baby!
