A Book Upon the Shelf

A Book Upon the Shelf

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

A book upon the shelf

My earnest wish

is to

someday

become

a book upon

a shelf

my spine

straight and

narrow

my pages

dog-eared

and yellowed.

Ah to become a "book upon a shelf" is such a wonderful thought. To carry it just a tad further which book would you like to be? Actually with your talent you could write your own book my friend. Another creative, thought provoking write that only you can do.

Oh, to be a well read book....to become part of the world's collective consciousness. Many of us wish for this. Beautifully stated, Kelly. Lydi**

If that ever happened I'd buy a whole library full of your books, Kelly! You are already "bookmarked" and "promoted" and reread a hundred times over. And there's nothing more thrilling than to come across one I've never read before. I have the same earnest wish, by the way. Maybe one day we'll be bookends! lol

Your reviews are a delight for me to read, Gene...thank you!
that would mean that people used us, and yet we would love being used, being needed, being important...

it would mean we had relationships...people picked us up...turned our pages...and read themselves into our lives.

What finer place is there for a writer. Still love the old libraries with their creaky wood floors and that smell of dust and aging pages. We can only hope to age as well. Good write, Kelly. I like it.

That smell gets infused into those books - there's nothing like it! Thank you, Ted!
Like a well-read book we want to be a life well-lived and for that life to have had meaning. Very good!
