Morning Brew

Morning Brew

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...the chaos of morning

"

Morning Brew

Wide  awake ,

to splash warm water

in my face

to stumble upon

three cats in the hall,

to find a body

warm and small

curled up within

a fetal position

sound asleep,

oblivious to

the smell of coffee

that warms my face

and puts me in

a complaisant mood,

to catch the garbage men in time

to pack the lunches

and iron the clothes

and wipe the nose

that’s running, still.

Morning brew,

i need a few

cups of coffee before noon,

cartoons blaring on the tv

crumbs all scattered

on the floor,

baby’s crying

reminding me

i’m not single, anymore.

A lovely description of many a hectic morning a mother endures. And yet there are little touches that speak of an underlying peace, an acceptance, not a surrender. And at the end of all the chaos lies a hot cup of coffee to calm the senses.

A good write, Kelly.

P.S. and chose the correct 'complaisant' as well.

Thank you, Ted. I appreciate you pointing that out!
Fun use of words to discover that not only is the nose running.

Sweet picture of home, children and the very needed morning brew. A delight to read.

Thanks, Kell, it's the same routine, every day!
I love this. Never having had kids, it's a reminder of how it can be for most people! I love the realistic & interesting details you pick to share & I love the scanty way you express yourself, as if in a hurry to get thru all these necessary things, longing to linger over your next cup. This is how I feel with my pets in the morning, having to get everyone cared for before I can have my first cup! *smile* Fondly, Margie

What would we do without that morning brew? How did people get out of bed at all before its introduction? Why is there not more worship of the bean that changed the world? Why am I asking so many questions when I should be reviewing?
Oh!, back in a tick. Need a coffee 
