Snow on Cypress Trees

Snow on Cypress Trees

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Snow on Cypress Trees

Once again it's the time of year
for the cognitive joys

of holidays past.

Carved turkeys and crusted pies

rekindle warm memories

of bustling preparations

in the kitchen,
with generations of family at hand
and pots of coffee brewing.

Leaves in a vast array
show no signs of winter here

in California…

where a heart is heavy
like snow on cypress trees.

Happy Thanksgiving Kelly. Your lines are nostalgic for past times and family. I have to admit feeling that myself when I reflect on family gatherings of years gone by. Your poem reminded me and filled me with warmth on a cold, cold day. Snow on cypress trees is a beautiful thought. All good wishes to you and yours.

I love that line Snow on Cypress trees. you could leave it like that and still have a gorgeous poem. Thankfully you don't and expand the fragile beauty into so much more.

I feel this way here in AZ as well, with the sun blaring at 75 degrees, the palm trees lining the streets and the cactus striking a not so holiday pose. But there are those small things that we manage, even if fabricated that can make me happy at times. A lot nostalgia in this one. Beautiful writing Miss S.

Good one Kelly. I missed a few family Christmases in my younger years, so I have an idea of your emotions here. It can be depressing when you're away from home. Your poem has just the right hint of nostalgia and longing to fit the season and a lovely descriptive scene of the hustle and bustle of preparing the meal.

Take care friend & Happy Thanksgiving. We celebrated ours in October.
