Lament

Lament

A Poem by Mark Hurlin Shelton

For all the brain I never use
The muscles that I fail to flex
The bad habits that I strive to lose
the the bliss I cannot find in sex

For all the hurts when the heart kept score
In my life so much hope, I had left for dead
the fear wrapped in my shivering core
and all the Love that went unsaid

For all the world that was not mine
oppurtunities that pass me slipped
the place was right but not the time
many a slip betwixt cup and lip

the doors where blessing fails to knock
the flowers that only angels smell
the passing seconds on the clock
that will not wait for us at all

For the lands my shoes will never walk
the blue expanse, alas, I cannot fly
an earthbound angel makes small talk
whilst dreaming of the sky

for all the plans that went astray
the friends who never waited
for every dream that could not stay
but left me feeling so frustrated.
