The Little Lie

The Little Lie

A Poem by Jock Engelman

I say I'm fine
I say it over and over
And I say it over again

I say I'm fine
I say it to everyone
And I say it to myself

I say I'm fine
I say it so you don't worry
And I say it so I don't worry

I say I'm fine
I say it so you don't fix me
And I say it cause I can't be fixed

I say I'm fine
I say it even though it's a lie
And I say it cause I wish it true

I say I'm fine
I say it cause I want to believe
And I say it hoping I'll be happy for once

Fake it till you make it. I get this but its so hard to actually put into practice when the soul is unhappy. Well penned.

The repetition in this is lovely and really drives the point home, it expresses something a lot of people (myself included) say when they're upset, but somehow this feel, different from that. Deeper, or wider.
