Beacuse I loved you

Beacuse I loved you

A Poem by Keturah Ipaliwan

Because I loved you, I gave myself to you; I cared deeply.

Because I loved you, I didn’t ask, I didn’t mind; I trusted you.

Because I loved you, I believed you and I gave you my hand.

Because I loved you, I fell hard and hurt myself. I took the bullets and you were safe.

Because I loved you, I let my guard down and you took advantage.

But,

Because I love you, I want you to be happy. I don’t want you to regret anything.

Because I love you, I want you to be free; free to choose, free to be you.

Because I love you, I will support you, I will help you. I want to see you become the man you ought to be.

And because I loved you I let you go.

Because I love you, you’re happy now and I’m still nursing my wounded heart.
