Memories

Memories

A Poem by nazia

Memories have a way of piling up..
Present becomes one in an instant.

Increasing the load
Hoarding themselves in the grey and white of my brain.

Transporting me to wilderness in the midst of a crowd
They laugh and hide when seeked out.

Memories are loyal too it seems...
They categorically remember all the mistakes of thine
Whilst becoming clueless when the turn is mine....

Free of any corporeal existence
They crawl in my mind.
Like a mold they infest my attic, refusing to leave..
En-lengthening the corpus of my experience
They weave and weave.

As time goes by they become blurry and weak
And yet through their transparent drapes
I recognise the silhouette of life.

Memories sure do know how to hold the fort
Keeping themselves alive amidst the extinguishing flames.....

keeping it real Nazia! i like it! have not given thought to memories as their own entity .. and they way you wove them, hid them ...set them as invading illness gives me the creeps and chills a bit .. we do have our biases even in memories ... and too many times the blame (if there can be one) is on the "other" .. we are all so human eh!? great closing lines ... they certainly do "...hold the fort" ... (wished i had thought to use that somewhere) ;)))))))))))))))))) thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much....
you can certainly 'hold the fort' now :)
Hard to do. Release and forget the bad memories, but we must replace with good memories.
"Memories sure do know how to hold the fort
Keeping themselves alive amidst the extinguishing flames..... "
I liked and I agree with the above lines. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thank you so much for the visit :)
even if our lives have been full of pain, and our hearts massacred like at the Alamo...
the memories will live on...still fighting to stay above the flames...

Thank you so much for the insight :)
I like the way you make memory a kind of living or rather moving thing here, Nazia. I always think of it that way because it’s not just the moment remembered but it shift with time and growth.

But as your poem shows, it can be stifling as well. It can inhabit us and impede us from moving forward.

I thought this was a really thoughtful reflection on memory. Nice work.
