Better Running Instead Of Needing You (Age 17)

Better Running Instead Of Needing You (Age 17)

A Poem by Andy Hackett
"

About a girl whose name is hidden in the title (B.R.I.O.N.Y.). She is gone now.

"

A screaming, pounding truth between us, still unspoken,
Setting my heart on fast forward every second you speak,
Tell me what you think you should, tell me what you feel,
Whisper it, shout it, just let this long-bourne bind be broken,
Why tell me these things when you feel like you're not real?
Whisper it once more, make my very fingers grow weak.

Do your kind words mean much? I find I don't really care
Whether they're real or a lie, I just want to wait here a while,
Be with this silent stranger, stay in this moment tonight,
This could end with my icy tears, could mean a last fast tear
In my life again, but I'm trapped. I think you've become a blight
In my lonely life, perhaps you're poison blotted out by my denial.

Perhaps I'm better off dead than stumbling head-first into you,
Better running instead of needing you, escaping while I can,
I'd love to believe you, but are you the serpent under the rock?
So real...ice cold like the first freezing drops of morning dew,
That's how it feels beside you, feeling faint, I might soon lock,
So what now, should I stay and feel so real or run while I can?
