I Wonder

I Wonder

A Poem by Nene
"

This is a poem about perfectionism. No, I'm not depressed, not in the slightest. Just rather...pressured. Anyway, enjoy.

"

I wonder.

Have you ever tried to be perfect?
I have.

I am constantly striving, reaching
to be flawless.
Perfect grades, perfect looks, perfect body, perfect friends.
But it's never enough.

I wonder.

Do you know what it's like?
To have every eye in the room
Staring with awe at you
And yet still feel inadequate?

I wonder.

What would happen if I
tore off my mask
drew the curtains
stepped onto the stage
and announced, "Here I am!
This is me."

And then I have to wonder.
Would anyone accept me?
Anyone at all?
Or would I just fade away
forgotten and unwanted?
A ghost.

I wonder.

I know exactly the feeling. Perfection isn't something that should try to be reached. I really liked this part:

What would happen if I
tore off my mask
drew the curtains
stepped onto the stage
and announced, "Here I am!
This is me."

Sometimes, you just need to hope others will accept you for who you are. They are your true friends. I really enjoyed the poem and I hope your problem doesn't become too bothersome.

This is a beautiful poem. My favorite part is the ending. It's something I, too, wonder about. I know how you feel. Though I can't say the same issue is with that of my peers, but more so with my family. It's exhausting trying to be perfect when you're so incredibly flawed. I know what it's like being pressured, and not exactly able to fit the mold by everyone else's standards. It's rough. I hope things get better for you. Take care.
