it is the loved ones that keep us going when we get old and aching, i know sometimes the only thing that makes me want to keep going is the thought of my grandchildren... so yes you are right Neville :)

Cos of (almost too many) friends and family, have come across immeNSely strong echoes of the above. We know the ultimate long rest.. we don't want to take anyone alongsIDE but oh the emptiness without them.. Guess we can but say the 'I love you' words as often as sincerity allows.. and hug a little more often.. ..
Your brief but utterly coherent poems create a chain of thought.

Often think this myself. My old mum actually said she was to nosy to die, this said whilst suffering ongoing ill health. I thought death at that time would be blessed relief for her. But no, she soldiered on and is still going strong to this day.
Enjoyed the read Neville.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods

Nicely thought-provoking. I agree with your message . . . but my life experience has shown me that many times older people become obsessed with the stuff in the first two stanzas, so I see why you might feel this reminder can be helpful for many. I always enjoy your straightforward point of view (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Sooner or later, indeed. I'm already wondering what's to become of all I have written! The thought of a failing mind does scare me, for who wants to lose all memory and perception of who and what they love? I think that is what did Hemingway in, that he could no longer battle his health issues that left him unable to write. What a hell it must have been to have that something taken away that gave him the greatest joy. How could one manage to live after that?

My mother often broods over the fact that there is hardly anyone left from those who knew her since childhood. Yes, it has begun troubling me nowadays...Powerful words, N.
my parents lived to be quite old...92 and 97....they lost almost all of their friends before they died.
so sad....the people we lose along the way...the friends.
