Let’s Talk Scars

Let’s Talk Scars

A Poem by Neville

Let’s Talk Scars

All the women I have ever truly loved

Or indeed, have ever wanted

Without so much

As a single or a solitary exception

For in truth

There really never was that many

All wore scars, of one sort, or another

However, only some were visible

Let’s say public

Whereas others were more covert

And yes, discrete

Some were deep and some more shallow

Some were broad and others narrow

Then there of course, were those

All the weirdo’s and the wino’s would

Talk about in bars

The personal and the private ones, that is

Hey honey, let’s talk scars

Over breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea ..

Well, being in my younger days an accident prone little tyke, I only have a dozen or few visible scars and they make up about a thousandth of one percent of the total.
Sticks and stones may break bones, but words and their fallout are as devastating or worse to our fragile little minds. And fragile they are, beneath the masks and bravado of our outer shell, which is about the same width and as protecting as the candy shell of an M&M is to the peanut inside.
I'd still say I like this one Nev, so as not to hurt your delicate sensitivities, but I do anyway, honest 😊

........... what a delightful thought .. and I sincerely thank you for it :)
even if we don't really mean to, poets engage in a one-upmanship of painful memories within their poems.
Whatever you have felt, I have felt it harder, deeper, I am more broken.
Yes, we don't mean it, I think it is just natural...
If only the competition could be of the laughs of life...but as Plath said, "readers want to know from someone who has been there and felt the worst"---
I feel this one, Neville,

Hello Neville. A good day. Was warm in Michigan. You are welcome my friend.
All people have scars. Life doesn’t leave anyone, man or woman, unscathed. We all have unique experiences in life that shape who we are for better or worse.

You are quite welcome
Scars mental and physical. When I read your lines first Neville, I read scarves and I was very willing to own up to the fact that I have hundreds. Then I pondered on the correct spelling and the physical kind and thought, I'm not revealing my war wounds to anyone and then I thought of the other sort. Those bloomin ones that have a habit of playing themselves like a bad record, over and over again. I have to say I was quite relieved to find that all your loves and fancies have all had their far share. That must make me more normal says I :) Of course, the older you get, I guess the more hurts you collect on the way. Then I thought of blokes and yep, they aren't immune either are they? Some of them are more battle weary and wounded than the female of the species. An interesting read, far too good to chuck out and well worth discussing over afternoon tea.

No scarves today the sun came out to play, the garden nice and warm, as winter's all but gone :)
interesting write says i! i need to re-visit my youth in the light of scars .. later in life it is certainly true .. in the light of deaths, divorces, second, third and fourth rounds of searching, dating and deciding ..all scar ridden for sure .. in the fires of youthful passions and lack of any true understanding of what was happening to us .. it was more innocent .. looking for the scars perhaps .. and from that some got just a little smarter about the whole thing ... did i???? mostly not :))))))))))))))))))))))))))) luv on ya bro .. great thought provoking read for me this morning ..
