The Dance of Overshadowed Children

The Dance of Overshadowed Children

A Poem by Neville

The Dance of Overshadowed Children

The dance of overshadowed children,

above their shallow graves,

always takes place in the grey space

between dusk

and the break of a brand new day ..

Since that is always,

where and when, they all gather to cry ..

This poem was like splintered glass piercing the heart. It oozed pain. You took me to two places, a war zone with all its misery and to our local cemetery where there is a place for those babies and toddlers who barely saw the light of day. I stifled the tears and thought of the ghosts of those children, preferring them coming out to play, laughing and smiling in the dead of night. I couldn’t bear to think of their parents. The loss of a child fathomless. Great piece of emotive poetry Neville. One of your best.

I came back and read again and found a different angle altogether. Still painful and still very sad to contemplate. Some children endure misery in their often short lives.

Sad, grey hued and true. Especially today. But then it ever was. Words of kindness. melacholy and empathy.

and there's me here, thanking you kindly, kind sir Ken .. Neville
dearest Neville... children are our inspiration when shadows become too much to bare. Their lives re diamonds that we wear. I shall never understand why anyone could hurt a child. softly, Pat

Thank you for visiting my little scribble sir .. Neville
I feel somber in reading .. very catchy title .. if it weren't so sad I would say it is a prep for All Hallows Eve. ... so many ways our children can be and are overshadowed .. dancing over their own graves is a stark image ... thanks for sharing Nev!
