The troubles in the world just have a habit of leapfrogging to another country from time to time; after all the issues in the Middle East, now it is Ukraine defending herself against aggression. We humans have a lot to answer for. I have cafe friends in both Ukraine and Syria so my prayers are with them always. A lovely humanitarian reminder, Neville. Sometimes we need such reminders. 💛

Ukraine was once called the "breadbasket of Europe" and is one of the major exporters of grain in the world. It has some of the most fertile farmland on the planet, easily capable of providing food for over a half billion people. From 1932 to 1933 Joseph Stalin created a famine in that country by seizing all the grain and farmlands and killing nearly four million Ukrainians by starvation in what is now remembered as the "Holodomor" or The Great Famine. Children were starved to death like prisoners in the Auschwitz concentration camps. This global catastrophe seems largely forgotten by the world today but the Ukrainian people remain well aware of their history. There were emaciated corpses lying in the streets of the cities. George Santayana, wrote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This cannot be allowed to happen in Ukraine again. According to UN investigators 90% of Syria is now living in poverty and most of that country's bread, being provided by humanitarian aid, depends solely on exports from Ukraine and Russia. One crisis affects the other and the power grab is for the entire food supply of bread and grain in Europe. Roughly 14 million people in Syria are depending on aid for survival from Ukraine. The attack on Ukraine is clearly targeting a larger global supply and worsening situations already intolerable for many. Syria teeters on the edge of complete collapse already with over half her population displaced from conflict. Imperialism is still alive and well at the Kremlin and in effect on a global scale. Your poem helps draw attention to the crisis at hand so I applaud your efforts in that. The attention of the world is needed to save "at least" ten million lives hanging in the balance. F.

It's an attack on global humanity. To that end, I have reposted my review here on my own page as a story. It's a sad story, to say the least. Peace and light, F.
Yes, no pity exactly... though the worst is over here but few things I do know, not the people, not the land, the earth, the water, the air is the same... I pray for Ukraine... I pray because she is a victim too. may all her people be safe and may the crisis ends so soon, I believe it is a must. Thank You for your care dearest Neville, words do matter, and words do have the power.
