Why do I sense sinister here? He is not afraid of monsters or dying. Why am I fearful for his lover and children? Interesting piece which allows the mind to run riot, and mine does. It doesn't take much for the mind to break.

So I came back for a further read. There are just so many scenarios here. So very many possibilities with this piece of brevity which can play on the emotions in many different ways.

So open to interpretation Neville.

I immediately think of the situation in Ukraine when I read this. Ordinary citizens on the front line, defending their country - and their families - from the Russian oppressor. When a man's family is threatened he will fight off fear, and face the monsters and possible death head on, eye to eye and hand to hand if necessary. I offer a prayer of hope to all who are in such a position. Some will die, but let's hope the end result will be a victory for freedom! A powerful poetic piece, Nev!
