Woke

 

Can you please leave it out, I’m wide awake

  

now she said ..

While rearranging the quilt in her favour ..

Oh’ no you are not,

you are simply well woke,

he replied ..

So they lay there like that, facing opposite

walls until

the first snowflakes arrived in the morning ..

Alongside all

the written complaints and the fresh lawsuits ..

This is what makes poetry work. You could have taken the time and trouble to write a short story, maybe even developed an entire novel with background, sub-plots, character development, and all the rest... but WHY? Every takeaway needed is already there in eleven short lines.

No need mate. Just had what felt like a steam clean for my lungs and a massage, if massage means being punched and kicked in the back (felt that way anyway)

Opposite walls, opposite sides in court...
I declare. so many relationships end up there.
they should hang quilts in the courtroom for decor.
Three divorces but I was lucky, never ended up in court.
And I got to keep the quilts...after all, my mom did make them for me...not us.

Clever as only you can be. Using words as only you can use them. Correctly ,surreal and yet with barbs. I love the biographical feel you so often put into these.
Woke is a strange word that means seperate things to different poeple. There is still right and wrong. Even in a hospitable environment. Or not as the case may be.

I am only on my first cup of coffee this morning so I may not be a "woke" right now so perhaps my view is slightly askew of your intended purpose But I do so dislike the term "Woke" because it creates a negative connotation to a positive infer... so does it mean that being informed and evolved is in fact a bad thing;? and if that is the case I must be paying attention to entirely too much relevance. Here in the States we have this candidate who likes to say that this is the place that woke comes to die... he bans books and takes away the basic human rights of self-determination he plays with human lives like political pawns and I say at least he isn't creating any false labels or advertising he is in fact anti- woke Definition of woke from dictionary...

I dont like the word either .. mainly because it seems that it can be applied to anyone and anything on a whim or as fancy and individual preferences and prejudices encourage and or permit in this increasingly finger pointing and hypocritical world ours .. please excuse the late response Robert, I was out getting fresh batteries for my body cam .. This scenario made me smile thinking about the media terminology these days for the wokes and the snowflakes.

The wokes think they have been awakened. Sadly they are only awake to half the story. That is their own personal views. The snowflakes can evolve with time and hopefully won’t see through blinkered eyes.

I enjoyed your scenario and anticipated the round of lawsuits for causing hurty feelings that each new day brings.

I have my eyes opened but I am most unwioke. Fun piece Neville. Now truly being awakened is something else entirely innit?
