The Real Reason

The Real Reason

A Poem by Daniel Whitaker

I've been wrong this whole time,
You were never the problem.
I was,
I screwed everything up.
I made you try your hardest,
And it made you give up.
I will never explain why I feel this,
But here I go.

I fell for you,
I didn't know what to do.
You don't think I tried,
But I did.
I gave it my all,
You thought I was drifting.
How was I drifting?

I was falling deeper in love,
You say it was all because of a dream.
I don't think so,
I caused it.
I was the reason,
I could've tried harder.
I could've changed.
I can't though,
It's not in my nature.

My nature is destruction,
Hatred and sorrow.
You tried to change,
But couldn't.
I'm sorry,
But I am a monster full of hate.
You don't control who I am.
