Blind Es'cape'

Blind Es'cape'

A Poem by Astro
"

When life turns sour and the ones you love are the ones to suffer, it weighs you down like a cape of sadness that grows and envelopes you.

"

At this moment I'm caped in crisis
and it follows behind me as I walk.
A shadow of chaos, black tar lungs
expanding and contracting by light.

More often than not, I feel sundown
approach like an emotional landslide.
I am buried in its folds smothered;
suffocating, choking, my fire damp.

It is like running tethered to stone
or climbing without the use of legs.
I struggle, bent by tragedy over-top;
Deaths knee in my back, sacrificial.

I'm awaiting the deathblow's arrival
chest exposed, offering up my heart.
My cape drags deep its clawed fingers;
not even Superman could learn to fly,

when the veil of night
has blocked out the sun.

Author's Note

Astro
Sorry to be a downer, but the pen follows the path of my emotions and presently, it is lost in the approach of a foreboding night, not for me but for those I love to contend with and it weighs upon me like concrete shoes and fever.

This is a perfect example of how effecting a poet's pen can be. Your words in this piece, took a firm seat on my shoulders.

The emotions expressed in this piece are permeating. But they are universal, we've all been there. And, you've penned them masterfully. The bit about Superman not being able to fly is quite stunning, it really drives the point home.

wow. i could feel you choking and breaking in this piece. each and every stanza offered an impeccable and truthful image of helplessness and constriction. a favorite lyric of mine says "there's beauty in the breakdown" and you have definitely done that here. you've taken your darkness, sadness, your breakdown and turned the words into something beautiful. i can only hope the wheel of the world will turn again in your favor...amazing work, keep writing out the sorrow

*hugs*

Is it something like you are timid of the night, that superman can't fly in the dark, but then why doesn't batman fly if he is a bat from the dark. Or is batman a beisball player that bats.

I don't see this as a "downer", I see this as the real, honest, art of life. Life isn't always beautiful, and it isn't always fun, but the true poet can turn the somber into something beautiful...as you have done here.
I'm sory you are feeling this way, and i would give you a hug if I could, but all that I can do is say that in writing out your thoughts and feelings you have touched another heart across the miles. :)
