Masquerade

Masquerade

A Poem by Vanessa

I’ve been living in your masquerade

But I don’t wanna be part of your parade anymore

Back then, I would do anything to make you feel my love

Back then, I thought we had something real

Until I realized you don’t know what real is

Cause you don’t tell me how you feel

We’re both a different breed

I follow your lead

I ask what you need

If you say go

I stop everything

And just like the swan, my wings are still

I can't fly under your control

Because I’m your yes girl

And according to you

A yes girl is a lady made for the modern world

The modern world knows me

But has nothing nice to say

Cause I am just flesh and blood

Not a woman with a mind

Not a woman with a soul

And if I stay with you any longer

I will never make some friends

I will never be myself

Which is why I have to say goodbye

To what I thought was true love

Some people find their way past toxic relationships ...others are mired in their growing lack of self-worth.

I love the structure of this poem, it is very well put together.

Wow, this is so powerful. Very well written. That's the worst thing I believe, to feel like someone has so much control over you that you will never be yourself. Letting go is necessary. Great work!
