Divine Treason

Divine Treason

A Poem by Against All Authority
"

Committing treason against God and religion.

"
"Do you believe in Him?" they ask,
"The Mighty, The Holy, The Maker"
"I do not, nor can not," I reply,
"For I am a free-thinker."

They gasp, gawk, and look appalled
At such an open declaration,
For my lack of all respect
Enrages their pious inclinations,

My mind is free of superstitions,
And my hands are unrestrained,
I can not, nor will not, apologize
For the fact you revere your chains,

"How can you insult God like this,
After all he's done for you?
He gave you life and freedom
And this is what you do?"

"He gave me nothing, no life, no freedom,
So I return the kindness in full,
I have no Gods, nor any Masters,
And I refuse to be a fool,"

"You are ungrateful," they screech,
"uttering such treasonous filth.
You will burn in a lake of fire
until time decides to stand still."

"Why do you lash out so viciously
Just because I renounce all religion,
Is you belief so frail and weak
That you need others to reinforce your position?"

"I can not accept your God,
My reason will not be discarded,
For blind faith and conjecture
Leave little to be regarded,"

"I am a free-thinker,
One who is ruled by sound based reason,
I denounce any, and all, Gods
And gladly accept my treason!"
