The Guise of Freedom

The Guise of Freedom

A Poem by Against All Authority
"

A soldier off to war.

"
Sent off to die, where, why?
These are things for others to decide.
They're men of great intellect,
of impeccable morals,
decide my fate.
I join to protect freedom.
We are spreading democracy to foreign lands.
They are savages, uncultured and uneducated.
In desperate need of our salvation.
I go there for my country,
wherever I am sent.
I am going to achieve peace.
Aggressive, ungrateful they greet us --
what beast!
Our bullets will educate them in the art of proper etiquette,
our rain of fire will teach them to look up to us.
We only want to bestow democracy upon them.
Why do they react so violently?
Standing over their young son's corpse,
why don't they comprehend?
I am here to free them;
I am here for my country,
for democracy,
for Freedom.
