The Night

The Night

A Poem by Noriene

The silence rings
On a still night
A melody of the stars
Or so I call it

Howling winds
Soaring ravens
Shining moon
Glittering starlight

To reach out and touch
One must
Let go of the dark
And embrace the light

Reading the last few lines, I thought maybe the dark was a metaphor for death. But the images in the rest of the poem are pretty specific to the night. So then I tried to understand the embracing of the light and realized maybe to appreciate the beauty of such a night, you can't be scared of the darkness all around, but focus on things like starlight and the moon - which could make the whole thing a metaphor for life.
