Aisle 17

Aisle 17

A Poem by NormaZ
"

I started a poem a day challenge, and this was from day one, about the cleaning aisle.

"
Stuck between pet food and produce
is Aisle 17, are the cleaning products

Florescent lights shine down on
shelves of
blue, yellow, green, red, orange
environmentally irresponsible
plastic jugs.

Laundry detergent on the right,
dish detergent on the left
stand at attention along the sides of the aisle.
All the brands shout out
Pick Me, they say,
I am Powerful, Extra Strong,
Concentrated!

The laundry detergents
Lavender, lemon, sea breeze,
compete for
whiter whites, softer clothes,
or starch if you are feeling a little uptight.

The dish detergents promise
Sparkling dishes just a capful away!
Don't worry about that caked on grease,
it's no match for our superpowers!

The disinfectants, the hard core cleaners,
Clorox, Lysol, PineSol
microorganisms beware!

At the end of the aisle,
virgin sunny never have touched a dirty floor,
sponge mops stand waiting,
with the dusters capable of picking up all the
dirt, dust, and cobwebs that lurk below your
bed.

Then there are, almost as an afterthought,
the humble wooden clothes pins,
that hold sheets which
billow out, and snap in the wind
singing a song
to clean by

I love it. Yes those ads can do it all. Now if they could just begin the work without me.

Ha,ha, yes, I’ve yet to run into that product!
Aisle 17 does a great job of personification. Each item on display has a life of its own. Seems to be a woman's world somewhat. However, it's a very fantastic one. In this poem, the ordinary is clothed with the extraordinary and the seemingly mundane becomes chocked full of life and energy.

You are welcome
It so happens I have been searching the cleaners aisles in recent days, and I noticed the same label claims you mention in this one: "Destroys Gooey Messes" ; "Makes Dirty Collars Beg For Mercy"; "Steamrollers Stains of Any Kind," etc. I sure hope the Iranians or North Koreans don't get hold of these things. We'd have to triple our defense budget just to survive.

They do shout out "choose me" like puppies in a rescue centre... each one attractive in its own way.
I did enjoy the last verse , humble clothes pegs to hold the clothes after the detergents have been chosen and used , and the little song to lighten the chores..

Feel free to use it in another poem lol
What a wonderful journey, aisle by aisle, to what should be and here, is - reality! Your mind, your imagination creates magical meaning of an otherwise ordinary place - read 'world' Superb.

My pleasure, it draws the reader in line by line!
You take us all on a shopping journey, down aisle and particularly aisle 17; we all have one favorite isle to shop. Products do shout at us to pick them up. It is amazing how many cleaning products are out there; hard to pick a good one.
This was a good poem on daily chores.
