What goes on in your mind?

What goes on in your mind?

A Poem by northern monkey
"

Random rambling rhymes that invaded my brain, when it should have been sleeping, inspired by writers on here.

"
Night-time waking, not to worry
Scribbling ideas, in a hurry
Back to sleep, or so we hope
Commitments to keep, will we cope?

Get this pad out, interesting times
Ideas to capture, rhythms and rhymes
Lest we forget, in cold light of morning
Pearls of wisdom, amidst all the yawning

Quite a shock this poetry lark
Brain's now firing in the dark
Not so restful, so many ideas
Left unrecorded over the years

Reading this back, this ain't a breakthrough
More a worry list, deadlines falling due
No great epiphany, just ideas that are new
New neural synapses to share with you

Still, it beats reaching out for sleeping pills
Concerned about work, anxious over bills
The brain's just adjusting, finding new gears
Exploring potential, processing our fears

Subconscious challenges that add up to a life
Not of great consequence, don't wake your wife
Let me put on the record, I've you guys to thank
You brought on these couplets, this innocuous wank

It sounds to the listener like practising scales
It develops the skils, but as music it fails
Essential precursor to more worthy work
So sorry for sharing, this stage we can't shirk

Enough already! For this sleepless night it ends
Ploughed new poetic pathways, lost new poetic friends?
A good night's sleep should mend this beginner's hell
Time now for reviewers, help fill this empty shell

"So many ideas left unrecorded over the years" I love this line. It is a process when you haven't written for a while. The thinking process brings back memories and the whirling thoughts make sleep far reaching. Nice job. Like learning to walk again.

I can so relate to this! Sometimes the words just strike at the most inopportune time, and you have to stop and feverishly jot them down to use later, or risk forgetting them. I used to keep pen and paper in the glove box and write things at traffic lights. I enjoyed this very much, as it may lack that 'final polish" but it certainly captures the spirit and the author's keen sense of humor and irony.

I enjoy your vehement guidance. That no matter what we should create what our soul can demonstrate.

Ah, I can soooooo relate. I often suffer from busy brain syndrome at night and I too keep a journal by my bedside to write down ideas. In addition, when I am upset or restless or unhappy, writing really helps work past issues. It is great therapy and often will lead to some very good work. I like your style of poetry, NM. It is honest and your sense of humor is always present. Very clever!

When you open the flood gates be prepared to be soaked!!! Yes the night brings added visions as your brain slowly trips down a gear to sleep, the poetic neuro paths spring into action and have no body clock..brilliant stuff

Yet again your talent has improved your really getting the hang of this writing lark as you put it lol Very great poem I really enjoyed the pace of this poem and the rhyming scheme is consistent you have a good balance of humour and serious thoughts which I really like I also enjoyed the fact that It was long and remained strong right through to the end
my favourite stanza was this:
Subconscious challenges that add up to a life
Not of great consequence, don't wake your wife
Let me put on the record, I've you guys to thank
You brought on these couplets, this innocuous wank
keep them coming my fellow newland-roadanite
