For Edie

For Edie

A Poem by Parker Bond

"For Edie"

Baby you'll never know me

You'll never have a book on your shelf

with my name on it

like I do of you

Its full of pictures of your big smile

of your playful eyes

sensual figure

Tell me babe

Tell me why I fell in love with you

Is it something in you

or is it something in me?

Because you lived so terribly fast

So loaded, lost, and sad

I wanted that once

Maybe even still do

I feel like I did when I was 7

looking up at the Empire State Building

I never felt smaller

until now

I never knew you

I saw Ciao! Manhattan

Does that count?

Of course it doesn't

I jsut thought I'd try anyway

So baby, your always beautiful

but this just isn't gonna work out

We're at two different places right now

I never knew you baby

and I miss you so much still
