On Contentment

Pepsi changed their logo

I guess the old one wasn't "hip" enough

I can see it now

Executives planning the incarceration

of my generation

So many brothers and sisters

produced as consumers

consumed as producers

Living in this country isn't about what you have

its about what you cannot see

Its about children

toiling, sweating, bleeding, blinded

sewing what we wear

behind everything we touch

A brand new pair of Nikes

How fashionable

The symbol of youth and vitality

for my generation

A "swoosh" they call it

Carved into memory like stone

by millions upon millions of tiny hands

tiny fingers pricked and bled

just as mine would

I tell myself I am lucky for my birthright

lucky to live where I have the privilege

to wear the clothes instead of making them

If this is luck

then luck is guilt

I am the executive
