Jaded

Jaded

A Poem by Olu Dumare

The heart is not a bone

it can’t be broken or crushed

nor shattered for that matter

so the matter is the matter

cannot calcify or ossify

can’t stop itself from healing

so in turn cannot stop itself

from feeling what it’s feeling…

heartache is a pain where once is too much

so if we really had a choice

I think once would be enough

but that’s never the case…

we do build great fortresses of brick and mortar

drawbridges, hidden quarters

moats with alligators in pits of water

but, conquerors are clever

scientist create earthquakes

walls fall, the earth shakes

you’re as exposed as your birth date

then, no matter how jaded or faded or tainted

your persuaded by persuasions to just be courageous

the trajedy’s not the pain it’s to no longer feel it

and though that time inflicted wounds

know that in time, time will heal it
