Prosperous Abandonment

Prosperous Abandonment

A Poem by Om Nom Ninja Sheep

There was once a land so great and prosperous,
That all who crossed it saw a perfect future.
The buildings were constructed of flawless embellishments and measurement.
The clear, glittering water
Supported the lush fertility of the full, abundant crops and flora.
Those then fed the healthy, happy, and clean people and fauna.
Life was perfect.
This ended abruptly,
As an overpowering depression
Defeated the Joy.
The land is now abandoned and empty.
Flora has overgrown the crumbling ruins of the structures.
As merely a few streaks of light peek through the intertwined branches,
The land is entirely hallow with despair.
Yet, one young lass never left.
A lass whom has never been seen.
A lass whom has never let go.
She shakingly grasps the shards.
The shards of her memories,
And cradles them to her heart.
She has sealed her lips,
As she bears no emotion.
She has sealed her heart and her mind
For eternity.
As she wanders the land,
Never knowing of anything more.

I love it! Very good! To me, it feels like this was a young innocent girl who had been attacked and now won't open herself up to anyone. Or, it could be American societies "you gotta be this and this to be beautiful" point and to achieve that, she damages herself.

Once again, very well written! :)

This is a very beautiful and sad story but I wish that there were more insight on why they were plagued by depression. I like your description and word choices.

This is more than a poem, it's like reading a very interesting book. It is like you've taken huge ideas and painted a picture that fits perfectly within a frame. This is lovely. You have tackled the subject of rotting amazingly and i am in love with the heading. Great work.

A good title. I like the story in the poem. Describing how a great land fell to struggle. The strong statement gave the poems feel of real life. Thank you for the excellent poem.

I like the poem a lot, you should puclish it. I would prefer a different title I guess, something about the girl. Anyhow, i like the piece anyway.
