TO BATHE THE MIND

TO BATHE THE MIND

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

My love affair with today's music....NOT!!!

"

The music of the world today
Is not my cup of tea.
With deaf'ning blasts from instruments
That sound like shrill banshees.

The 'concert magic' fills the air
With such a travesty,
My head is hurting, pounding hard....
It's not supposed to be!

I long for days of charm and class
Beside the parlor grand,
Where Chopin wafts through silken dreams
To touch a ladies hand.

Oh poetry of melody
Which soothes the savage breast.
And bathes the mind with memories
That cause the soul to rest!

Author's Note

Miss Sharon
I love beautiful music with nice melodies and soothing refrains. This does NOT describe the music of today in any sense of the word.

I love your line 'where Chopin wafts through silken dreams'! Since poetry is music makes sense to write about it. And you did! The good and the bad. But I disagree. So much music of all genres is being produced. Somehow you're not finding yours. I think music expands at the rate of its civilization. I have the good fortune of having a station up here where the motto is "where music matters" and they play anything and everything. And I do hear good new music. You'll find some, I'm sure of it.

Yes. Awful stuff. A Quick fix for the vacant minded and a quick buck for the purveyors of such.

I too find that much of today's music simply fails to touch a chord and lacks in any beauty (or, for that matter, sophistication). But then I hear something like Jeff Buckley's amazing and beautiful cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and I am reminded that there are still gems to be found in today's music, one just has to work a little harder to find them. Nicely spoken sentiments (with your usual attention to exquisite meter and rhyme). ~Jim

i love music too, classical, but also old rockabilly, doo wop and sixties...that was music...
most of what is today is just noise...either it is just me aging...or the music has gone downhill...

i relate to this...there is still poetry---and that does soothe the savage beast, as you say.
