AND THE CITY HAS DISAPPEARED!

AND THE CITY HAS DISAPPEARED!

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

Winter arrival at altitude.....

"

At altitude, winter arrives many moons
before her appointed time.
Red, gold, russet and orange leaves
desperately cling to prickly conifers
in a vain attempt to hold hands
with fall a little bit longer.

Sometimes winter sneaks in while we are sleeping
and we wake to the magic of her first snowfall.
Even heaps of trash are beautiful covered in
virgin white! At other times she blows in with fierce
velocity at mid day, catching light sweater wearing
workers by surprise at days end.

But not to worry...snowploughs and salty chemicals
are always prepared to come to the rescue.
Unless of course the temperature has fallen
well below zero and that beautiful diamond white
loveliness measures five feet ten inches high
and the city has all but disappeared!
