TALISMANS OF MEMORY

TALISMANS OF MEMORY

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

Memories of Christmas past....

"

TALISMANS OF MEMORY

I hear them from a distant place...
Those days of focused anticipation,
Roasted marshmallow dreams and
Bells that jingled through the starry night.

I see their faces, small and wonder-filled...
Noses pressed firmly against windowpanes
Frosted white, candles reflecting in
Wishful eyes on Christmas Eve.

I taste the magic of your kiss
Beneath the mistletoe...children tucked
Safely between folds of hand-sewn quilts...
Refuge of a Grandmother's love.

The red and green scrapbook filled with
Sepia photographs lies open to a torn and yellowed
Page...images which words can't express...
Talismans of childhood's memory.

A poignant holiday write. We remember holidays of years past and all those characters who are either no longer with us or all grown up. We remember with a heavy sigh. Still, each holiday brings changes and new memories....and some of them are wonderful. Very emotive, Sharon. Well written. Lydi**

What a lovely review my fellow wordsmith! I thank you very much. ~Sharon
As Jacob states below, it evokes strong childhood memories. The safety and cosiness of Christmas. Well done!
