TAKING ROOT

TAKING ROOT

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

Can there ever be a "happily ever after.?"

"
TAKING ROOT

Some things are meant to be concealed
We've grown careful to hide misfit thoughts
Like be-mittened gloves worn to shield the winter winds

This is our home yet one room remains locked...
Where darkness of mind has taken root
And the house turns slowly around it's own remorse

Old memories cling to us sticky as the toes of frogs,
Our heavy cloaks wrapped tight against the cold...
A worn black wing we can not shrug off

Once upon a time we thought the same thoughts,
Felt the same things inviting lingering kisses, fits of laughter,
Bouncing and heel-clicking in a place of nocturnal harmony

We HAVE heard about a place where once upon a time becomes
Happily ever after, soul mates never die, spirits break their fast on love
And the sickness of indifference has the decency to die

that room, that room, the one in our hearts....
they say home is where the heart is...but the home seems so somber
when the one who occupied it is lost.
So many lives have been lost this past year...my heart is trying to recover,
but I just can't seem to find a new place in which to live.
where love resides again among smiles.

This poem is very deep and thought provoking and has some powerful imagery. There is a strong feeling of pessimism, stemming from the (in my view erroneous) idea that "Some things are meant to be concealed". All things can heal when we bring them into the light!

This is our home yet one room remains locked...
Where darkness of mind has taken root
And the house turns slowly around it's own remorse

Thank you Sharon, I really enjoyed this read, although I couldn't help but want to see a more hopeful sequel!

Thanks so much Helen for a lovely review of this write. ~Sharon
I see a lot of darkness in this poem, very heavy and deep. Old memories can be very disturbing; and yet there is some light here; once upon a time life was "nocturnal harmony" but that was then; cling to a place of "happily ever after"..."where loved ones die of decency". This is a very clever poem with deep thoughts and emotions. I love it. Best, Betty

You’re very welcome!
Miss Sharon. Hard, honest and powerful poetry shared.
"Once upon a time we thought the same thoughts,
Felt the same things inviting lingering kisses, fits of laughter,
Bouncing and heel-clicking in a place of nocturnal harmony"
The above lines could stand alone and with age. We know what is true and what is not. But we must still find some laughter, seek some kisses and know peace in nature. I tried. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry and your thoughts.

Thanks ever so much kind sir for your lovely review! ~Sharon
wow, Sharon! such depth of thought, emotion and life experience .. i love this a lot! i don't know where to begin .. i am kind of stunned by it .. and wordless .. so creative with the word smithing ... like:
"Bouncing and heel-clicking in a place of nocturnal harmony' and"
"Old memories cling to us sticky as the toes of frogs,"
super my friend .. original and dynamic .. for me your closing line is a sharp turn .. shakes me awake .. our inner lives certainly have everything to do with our "outer" living .. and visa vesa .. but i kind of wanted to stay with the lingering kisses and fits of laughter ;) i think this is a real keeper my friend! my cup of tea!
