IN WAIT BEHIND THE GATE

IN WAIT BEHIND THE GATE

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

Suffice to say I lay me down regretting life and dream.

"
  • IN WAIT BEHIND THE GATE

  • To wish upon a deadly star
Is more than it may seem.
Suffice to say I lay me down
    Regretting life and dream.

No mortal would bequeath to die
    Before appointed time,
And yet the mind to longings held
Will play the act in mime.

What wretched hand of cards was dealt
    To unsuspecting man?
The ace of spades has tilled the soil
    Before the days began.

Let not your heart 'ere troubled be
    Or try to alter fate.
The Duke of Evil ever lies
  • In wait behind the gate

That last ride into the sunset. So many fear it. So many strive to avoid it. But the adventure! I have had many adventures on the road. And that will be the grandest of all. The Drifter will finally know what lies at the end of the greatest trail ever ridden!

Nicely written.

I agree with Ken this piece of wisdom has an air of old charm, so worldly. It’s like blowing the dust of a good book and you find a gem of a quote inside.

Thank you so much Andrew for your very kind and generous remarks! You are appreciated. ~Sharon
This sounds like something from two centuries ago and I don't mean that in a derogatory fashion. In fact, quite the reverse.
Written on a church wall or even on a gravestone. It is advice soundly written and eloquently placed.

Awwwwww! Thanks so much for a wonderful review my friend. I appreciate this so very much! ~Sharon
Oh my. regretting life? I don't think I could ever do that! I love life and everything in it. But I don't fear death. Death is just part of life like being born. I think being born is more to be feared than dying. Christ said, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." But I think a great many folks choose to die before their appointed time or else we wouldn't have so many suicides. There were over 47,000 suicides in 2019 in the United States alone. Life can sometimes get tough but fortune can turn in an instant. If hope springs eternal then we should likewise believe our fortunes may change. So while I refuse to fear, I fully intend to endure. I enjoyed the read. F.

Thanks so much my dear friend. I knew you would understand this one. You are appreciated! ~Sharon
When your time is up it;s up... and then the gates of evil will grasp you, no matter what the mind speaks to you; I personally believe in fate... when my time is up, i will be ready to go, whenever that it; fate drives many people in this life. So, in fact we have no control over our death.... but there is some hope in this lovely, but a bit eerie, piece. The Duke of evil awaits us . Well done!

You’re very welcom😊
I like the classic aspect of this wonderful poem. Good message wrapped in awakening and hope. Beware of the Father and Duke of all lies. Man is easy to get ensnared by many vices.
Excellent work.
