Standing on the Rooftops

Standing on the Rooftops

A Poem by Orpheus

Standing on a rooftop

Watching the birds fly by

Envious of that freedom

Born from one chained

Chained to this ground

To this polluted world

Watching the birds soar

Free in the sky

Above the smog

The smoke

The sounds

Free above the lives of

Pitiful humans

I wonder

Of a time when man

Once had freedom

To go as he wished

Do as he wished

Free, but under the sky

I wonder why

Why are the wings of freedom

Blackened

By soot, smoke, dirt

What happened to those beautiful white wings?
The ones that soared

High above the clouds

High above us all

Looking down at us all

I wonder why

The black wings of freedom

Are so far out of our reach

The reach of those

Bound to the world

Below the clouds.
