Kingdom of One

Short poem about depression.

I hold court in a kingdom of one.
Echoes of silence paint the walls.
Alone in torment, unbidden thoughts come.
They fill up these halls.

They crowd and weigh me down.
Myself is the only one to blame.
They paralyze and drown.
Will I let the days be the same.

I think of your face and the mind behind.
This breaks the cycle.
Interrupts the cords that bind.
Allowing me to be just Michael.
