Starlight

Starlight

A Story by Kathryn Smith

For I'm so scared of losing you

and I don't know what I can do about it

I don't want to know who I am without you

Midnight

My favorite time of night

The world isn't what it seems

It stands still

The dark is all mine

I step outside barefoot

I've been dying to do this for months

I walk down the cool cement driveway

bliss

sheer pure bliss

Soft wind kisses my face

It runs through my hair

I am here for the stars

They never look the same to me

Each night the magic changes

There isn't a day I don't think of you

Are you looking at these stars too?

You are so far away

Are you still waiting for me?

Do you even ever think of me?

For now the sky is all we have

It is all I have left to hold on to

I'll be there soon

I promise

I make a wish

This starlight is as tangible as we are

Please do not slip away

Do not forget about the girl across the sea

The girl who has a heart that you carry

Stay in this starlight for me

We will bask in it together one day
